All paddles are made from 3/8" thick
Poplar wood. I use Poplar wood
because it is a lightweight but very
strong wood. It delivers a sharp sting
without the chance of deep bruising like with
other denser woods such as Oak or
Maple. This makes it ideal for use on thin
undies and especially on the bare bottom.
Even though lighter woods such as White
Pine produce a greater sting, they tend to
break easier as well. Therefore, Poplar gives that desired
balance between pain level and durability.
The Process: Each paddle is hand cut from a stock piece and sanded to a smooth
finish giving special attention to rounding the edges in order to minimize any bruising.
If purchasing a plain paddle, your board is now coated 3 to 4 times (depending on
absorbtion of the wood) in varnish to seal and further strengthen the wood. When dry,
it is polished to a high gloss finish and is ready for use.
If you are purchasing a personalized paddle, then after the cutting and sanding
processes your name, symbol, or both (depending on purchase) are cut with a router
into the wood. This makes it a permanent, personal addition to your paddle. You can
choose between Block lettering or cursive writing. Typically lettering and outlines of
symbols are filled in with black paint. However, on the NAME ONLY, you can choose
a different color to fill in with if you wish. Outlines of symbols are black and the
symbol itself is painted in as close to your example as possible. The example pictures
will give you an idea of how this will look.
IF YOU ARE PURCHASING A PADDLE WITH A SYMBOL: you MUST provide a
picture with your order or at least a detailed description of it.
At this time, we are only offering the one paddle design..The typical School Paddle.
However, I hope to be offering the nostalgic "Teardrop" design soon. The Teardrop
paddle is the ideal paddle for OTK.
ALL PADDLE ORDERS MUST BE PAID FOR IN ADVANCE!...Since each one is
personalized, we can not simply put it back on the shelf and sell it to someone else if
you change your mind. Also, while your satisfaction is guaranteed, please remember
that all the work that goes into making your paddle is done by HAND. There may be
small flaws because of this....which make your paddle unique.. :)
